Taxes	The tax burden per person for personal income, property, general sales, auto registration, estate and gift taxes showed Alabama to be among the lowest of all 50 states.

Property Taxes	The amount of taxes to be paid is determined by multiplying the appropriate millage rate by assesed value minus the proper exemptions. A mil is one-tenth of one cent (.001). Estate Taxes	Alabama does not have an inheritance tax, but does have an estate tax, if the value of the estate exceeds the federal $600,000 exemption. After federal exemption, the first $60,000 is also exempt from Alabama tax. The state of Alabama does not levy real estate transfer tax.
